Magical moments in Reykjavík – Church

Our last day in Reykjavík was really carefree as my brother and I decided to roam the city on our own. Really glad we did that. It was one of the most memorable days of my short-life in Scandinavia. I can still remember those magical moments, probably because they were unexpected. How exciting can the city be after all the national parks (Þingvellir), waterfalls (Golden Falls), geysers (see The geysers), lagoons, northern lights (see Blue Lagoon)?!? Well, Iceland has taught me to expect the unexpected 🙂

We slept really well the night before (thanks to the magic of Blue Lagoon :)) and started the day a bit later. A glimpse of the city/shopping street from our hotel room. ???????????????????????????????

Our first stop was Reykjavík Church – Hallgrímskirkja. One of the more unique churches I have seen in Scandinavia. I like the dramatic feel, enhanced by the rising sun behind it.

Magical moments inside the church. It was like watching the sun rising and flooding the church with…hope…

We climbed (took the lift) to the church tower. More magical moments – 360 degree view of the city. It was very pretty, decorated with light snow over the last few days. And it glowed in the morning sun.??????????????????????????????? ??????????????????????????????? ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ??????????????????????????????? ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

We also stayed briefly for the mass at Hallgrímskirkja. Although we are not christians and we did not understand the pastor, it was nevertheless an inspirational start to the day…
